needs and expectations. <strong>The</strong> training programme was implemented by the Malaysiangovernment in response to curriculum changes. To collect the required data, the researchersused a questionnaire in thirty three secondary schools with a sample <strong>of</strong> 72 teachers. <strong>The</strong> finalresults showed that the majority <strong>of</strong> the participants were satisfied with the programme. About84.1% <strong>of</strong> the teacher reported that they still needed more training particularly in speakingskills. <strong>The</strong> researchers ended declaring that further studies are still needed to identifyshortcomings <strong>of</strong> INSET programmes to get a better comprehensive feedback.Likewise, Al-Shandaweali (1990) reported an evaluative study conducted to measure theeffectiveness <strong>of</strong> a training programme designed to ease the introduction <strong>of</strong> a new text book"Welcome to English" in prep schools in Egypt. <strong>The</strong> data were provided by 100 prep stageinspectors and senior teachers <strong>of</strong> English through responding to a questionnaire <strong>of</strong> 48 items,and an observation checklist. Results analysis pointed out that the teachers found theprogramme very helpful and successful in aiding them to cope with the new introducedcurriculum.Close to the previous study positive results, Maiworm et al., (2010) carried out a study toevaluate the effectiveness <strong>of</strong> the Comenius Inservice Training Programme arranged by theEuropean Union between January and June 2009. <strong>The</strong>re were about 4,000 programmeparticipants with a majority English language teachers. <strong>The</strong> programme provided three types<strong>of</strong> inservice training forms including, courses and seminars, conferences and less informaltypes including job shadowing and peer observation. Two questionnaires implemented priorto and after the programme were used to collect data. Data analysis showed that 93% <strong>of</strong> theparticipants were satisfied with the programme; they considered it to be very valuable leadingto enhancement <strong>of</strong> their new skills and improving their language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency. Only 6%showed some reservations and a very limited number <strong>of</strong> the participants were dissatisfied.- 64 -
