This population size is of particular interest asthey are considered to be ’medium to small communities’.Table 6.1 presents the distribution of population in UC/Ls by population size. Of allthe population who lived in UC/Ls, 5.3 per cent had a population size of less than2000 people, 11.8 per cent had a population size between 2000 and 20 000 people,10.4 per cent had a population size between 20 000 and 100 000 people and 72.57 percent had a population size of more than 100 000 people.Table 6.1 Distribution of population in UC/Ls, by population size, 2005Population size Less than 2000 2000–19 999 20 000–99 999 100 000+ TotalPersons 894 002 2 000 653 1 772 086 12 345 561 17 012 302Percentage 5.26 11.76 10.42 72.57 100.00Source:BITRE time series estimates.Table 6.2 presents the distribution of UC/Ls by population size.
