GlossaryState and territory (S/T)Statistical Division (SD)States and Territories are the largest spatial unit in theAustralian Standard Geographic Classification (ASGC) mainstructure. Six states and five territories are recognised in theASGC structure: New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland,South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, NorthernTerritory, Australian Capital Territory, Jervis Bay Territory,and the external territories of Christmas Island and Cocos(Keeling) Islands (ABS 2001b).A general purpose spatial unit, in the Australian StandardGeographic Classification (ASGC), and largest and moststable spatial unit within each state and territory (S/T). SDsconsist of one or more Statistical Subdivisions (SSD) andaggregate to form S/Ts (ABS 2001b).Statistical Local Area (SLA) A general-purpose spatial unit in the Australian StandardGeographic Classification (ASGC).
