Chapter 2 | Historical trends in regional aviationIn 2005, Airlines of South Australia played an important role in serving the state’sregional airports. It provided services to 13 regional airports. Regional Express offeredservices to seven regional airports in the state.TasmaniaFigure 2.28 shows that the trend in the number of airlines serving regional airportsin Tasmania was generally stable over time, with the exception of a surge in the late1980s and early 1990s. While there were seven airlines serving nine regional airportsin 1984, this figure increased to eight airlines in 2005. All airlines operating fromregional airports in Tasmania in 1984 were no longer in operation in 2005 (Table 2.13).In 2005, Airlines of Tasmania played an important role operating services to fiveregional airports.
