BITRE | Report 1152.3.5 Aircraft take-off weightAircraft take-off weight has been used by the Enroute Charges Rebate Scheme inrecent years as a basis to determine which aircraft are entitled to receive subsidiesfor Airservices Australia’s enroute air traffic control charges on regular publictransport and aeromedical aircraft. The current eligibility criterion for the schemerequires aircraft to be less than 15 tonnes take-off weight. The scheme also allowscertain aircraft with a maximum take-off weight between 15 and 21 tonnes in WesternAustralia to be subsidised under some terms and conditions.Figure 2.35 shows the proportion of aircraft movements at regional airports by threegroups of take-off weight 15 tonnes or less, 15–21 tonnes and more than 21 tonnes. The proportion of movements by aircraft 15 tonnes or less has consistently beenabove 50 per cent in the past two decades. The proportion of movements by aircraftof 15–21 tonnes has declined from 20 per cent in 1984 to less than 5 per cent in the last15 years. In contrast, the proportion of movements by aircraft of more than 21 tonneshas increased over time, reaching 50 per cent by 2005.Figure 2.35 Aircrafts movements at regional airports, by take-off weight,1984 to 20051009080600540480Per cent706050403020100Source:19841985198619871988198919901991BITRE time series estimates.2.4 Summary19921993A number of trends emerge from the analysis of trends in regional aviation for thepast 22 years:1.
