BITRE | Report 115years, the proportion <strong>of</strong> aircraft movements at regional airports by this aircraft typeremains higher than piston-driven or jet aircraft.The most common types <strong>of</strong> turboprop aircraft have changed over the study periodin a similar way to jets. In the mid-1980s the Embraer EMB110, Swearingen Metro II,DHC‐6 Twin Otter <strong>and</strong> Fokker F27 were the most common types. The mid-1990s saw awide number <strong>of</strong> turboprop types in common use, including: Saab 340; DHC‐8‐100/200;Fairchild Metro III/23; Fokker 50; Embraer EMB120; Shorts 360; Embraer EMB110; DHC‐6Twin Otter; <strong>and</strong> BAE Jetstream 31. In 2005 the most common types were the Saab 340,DHC-8-100/300, Fairchild Metro III/23 <strong>and</strong> Embraer EMB120.Piston-drivenThe number <strong>of</strong> aircraft movements by piston-driven aircraft has generally declinedover the years. Many models <strong>of</strong> piston-driven aircraft have been used in regionalareas since 1984 (or earlier). Most <strong>of</strong> them have 10 seats or less. Unlike the jet <strong>and</strong>turboprop aircraft serving regional airports, three types <strong>of</strong> piston-driven aircraft haveremained the most common over practically the whole study period. These threeaircraft types are the Cessna 404 Titan (last manufactured in 1982), Piper PA31‐350Chieftain <strong>and</strong> Cessna 402.
