There has, however,been no follow up.Republic ofMoldovaThe Department of Migration of the M<strong>in</strong>istry of Labour is provid<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formationon the opportunities and conditions for legal migration through public <strong>in</strong>formationcampaigns, written materials and <strong>in</strong> response to <strong>in</strong>dividual queries.IOM launched a campaign to raise awareness <strong>in</strong> October 2001, aimed atpotential victims of traffick<strong>in</strong>g, victims of traffick<strong>in</strong>g, the relevant Moldavianauthorities deal<strong>in</strong>g with migration, gender issues, human rights, organisedcrime issues and the general public. The campaign <strong>in</strong>cludes:• Research <strong>in</strong>to traffick<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> women <strong>in</strong> Moldova, and research <strong>in</strong>to themedia to identify the most effective and cost efficient channels for dissem<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>formation;• Dissem<strong>in</strong>ation of <strong>in</strong>formation through brochures, leaflets, TV documentaries,TV public service announcements, public service announcementson the radio, press advertisements, press releases/conferences, stickers and direct dissem<strong>in</strong>ation through educationstructures;• Hot-l<strong>in</strong>e support;• Awareness build<strong>in</strong>g workshops with government officials and nationalNGOs;• Sem<strong>in</strong>ars for journalists;• Activities for the unemployed and for juridical entities, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formationabout the situation on the labour market, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and <strong>in</strong>formationsem<strong>in</strong>ars for the unemployed.UNICEF, through its Young People’s Health Development and Participation Programme,is support<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation, support and participation opportunitiesfor young people, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g adolescents at risk of HIV/AIDS and STIs, alcoholand drug users, dropouts from formal education, adolescents separat<strong>in</strong>g fromresidential care and girls at risk of traffick<strong>in</strong>g and prostitution. Activities<strong>in</strong>clude:• Access to youth friendly health services through tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of professionals,support<strong>in</strong>g NGOs and provid<strong>in</strong>g age-appropriate <strong>in</strong>formationpackages for adolescents on healthy lifestyles, HIV/AIDS preventionand issues related to juvenile del<strong>in</strong>quency, traffick<strong>in</strong>g and abuse;• Establish<strong>in</strong>g youth friendly centres <strong>in</strong> five key cities with high levelsof juvenile del<strong>in</strong>quency, vagrancy and drug abuse. The centres will beopen and accessible to all young people and will provide meet<strong>in</strong>gspaces, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g facilities, equipment, <strong>in</strong>ternet access and facilities foryouth association meet<strong>in</strong>gs;• Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of professionals and peer educators to develop and implementpeer education with<strong>in</strong> the youth friendly centres, on the basiclife skills young people require to reduce their vulnerability, health,decision mak<strong>in</strong>g, communication and negotiation skills;• Support<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g courses for employees <strong>in</strong> the state <strong>in</strong>stitutions forchildren, <strong>in</strong> co-operation with La Strada Moldova.OSCE/ODIHR is plann<strong>in</strong>g capacity build<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for NGOs work<strong>in</strong>g on theprevention of traffick<strong>in</strong>g for the year 2002.In 2001, the US Embassy organised tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for journalists and thematicreport<strong>in</strong>g tours on the treatment and rehabilitation of prostitutes <strong>in</strong> the US. Ithas also f<strong>in</strong>ancially supported campaigns for prevention and the rais<strong>in</strong>g ofawareness organised by local NGOs and the publish<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>in</strong>formation materialsfor vulnerable groups distributed by the Moldovian customs police.31
