If you have room for a mystery cue, put in something from The Lion and the Horse. Iconsider that score to be one of the absolute best from Max in that same general period--although it has no name recognition (unlike Juan). It was never released on dvd (althoughI hope Turner/Warner Archives will eventually release it), never on TCM that I am awareof, etc.Talking Herrmann: Herrmannb CBS Sketches circa 1945 (Box 109 UCSB)Reply by: Bill Wrobel ()______________________________________________________________________I have discussed these sketches a few times in other posts but thought I would noworganize the cues in a complete, orderly fashion. I researched these sketches just Fridayafternoon at UCSB to make sure I had everything noted, hand-copied various cues, andtook 35mm photos. I also looked at more of the Early Works material. I thank DavidSeubert for the opportunity. I had not been there at UCSB since January 2006, I believe.I had the three rolls of film processed into photo cds at Walgreens. Two came out goodbut the third roll was not processed correctly, so I'm waiting for the technician to make areplacement from the negatives. Perhaps I'll expand my UCSB Photo Tour that is alreadyonline in the esteemed Bernard Herrmann Society site (see the Front or Home Page). There are I believe sixty folders of material. Many folders have only one page, whileothers have up to 6 or even more pages. There is too much material for an afternoon'sresearch so I'll need to go back. Meanwhile I'll examine what I already have and see if Ican find anything quite interesting. Already, in a previous research of the material, Idiscovered several self-borrowing examples.A project I am considering for the Centennial is to orchestrate at least several of thecues. It would be a shame to have this germinal music by Herrmann sleep forever in Box109 at UCSB! Best to make the material known, that it exists, and perhaps somedaysomebody with means would be interested in performing the music (as Herrmannintended). At the moment a friend and I are hard at work to determine the real identity of thismusic (what radio show it was intended for or actually used in part). We have a lead butneed to get copies of the audio. Then I can reality test the audio clips against the writtensketches to verify whether or not the music cues match. As indicated before, I contactedNorman Corwin (yes, he's still with us!) but he knew nothing about the various cue titles. Thanks for your time!Bill Wrobel*********************112
