INTRODUCTIONPyrimidine (1) is a six membered heterocyclic compound consisting oftwo nitrogen atoms at 1 and 3 positions of heterocyclic ring.NNPyrimidine(1)Generally Pyrimidine derivatives such as 2-hydroxy-substituted-pyrimidine,2-mercapto-substituted-pyrimidine and 2-amino-substituted-pyrimidine are studied.Pyrimidines have been isolated from the nucleic acid hydrolysates. Pyrimidines havebeen used as compounds that interfere with the synthesis and functioning of nucleicacids e.g. fluorouracil, which has been used in cancer treatment. Also there aresome thiouracil derivatives, which produce adverse reduction in susceptible patientsand found more potent and less likely to produce side effects and is being widelyused. 143 There are several other important groups of pyrimidines with medicinaluses.Pyrimidine ring carrying various substituents may be built up from two orthree aliphatic fragments by the principle synthesis or by a variety of othersyntheses, which are complimentary rather than alternative to it. An alternativemethod of synthesis is the isomerisation or break down of another heterocyclessuch as hydration of purine, but such methods are rarely used. Pyrimidine is bestconsidered as a resonance hybrid to which the uncharged equivalentKekule structures 2 and 2a and charged structures 2b and 2g contributes.42Pyrimidine…..
