SYNTHESIS AND THERAPEUTIC EVALUATION OF 6-(2-(4-CHLOROPHENYL)-8-METHYL-1H-IMIDAZO[1,2-a]PYRIDINE-3-YL)-4-ARYL PYRIMIDINE-2(H)-THIONE.Thiopyrimidines represent one of the most active class of compoundspossessing a wide spectrum of biological activities, such as significant in vitroactivity against unrelated DNA and RNA viruses including polio and herpesviruses, diuretic, antitubercular, spermicidal, etc. In view of these facts, It wascontemplated to synthesize thiopyrimidine derivatives by condensation of (2z)-3-[2-(4-chlorophenyl)-8-methyl imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-3-yl]-1-aryl prop-2-en-1-one withthiourea in basic media and methanol as a solvents.CH 3NNClHNSNRWhere,R = ArylThe constitution of the synthesized products have been characterized usingelemental analyses, Infrared and 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy andfurther supported by mass spectroscopy.The products have been screened for their in vitro biological assay likeantibacterial activity towards Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial strainsand antifungal activity towards A. niger at a concentration 40μg.
