The work begun in feebleness and obscurity has continued to increase andstreng<strong>the</strong>n. Publishing houses in Michigan and in Cali<strong>for</strong>nia, and missions in England,Norway, and Switzerland, attest its growth. In place of <strong>the</strong> edition of our first papercarried to <strong>the</strong> office in a carpetbag, about one hundred and <strong>for</strong>ty thousand copies of ourvarious periodicals are now sent out monthly from <strong>the</strong> offices of publication. The handof God has been with His work to prosper and build it up.The later history of my life would involve <strong>the</strong> history of <strong>the</strong> various enterpriseswhich have arisen among us, and with which my lifework has been closelyintermingled. For <strong>the</strong> upbuilding of <strong>the</strong>se institutions, my husband and myself laboredwith pen and voice. To notice, even briefly, <strong>the</strong> experience of <strong>the</strong>se active and busyyears, would far exceed <strong>the</strong> limits of this sketch. Satan’s ef<strong>for</strong>ts to hinder <strong>the</strong> work andto destroy <strong>the</strong> workmen have not ceased; but God has had a care <strong>for</strong> His servants and<strong>for</strong> His work.*****Chapter XIV - The Death of My HusbandNotwithstanding <strong>the</strong> labors, cares, and responsibilities with which my husband’slife had been crowded, his sixtieth year found him active and vigorous in mind andbody. Three times had he fallen under a stroke of paralysis; yet by <strong>the</strong> blessing ofGod, a naturally strong constitution, and strict attention to <strong>the</strong> laws of health, he hadbeen enabled to rally. Again he traveled, preached, and wrote with his wonted zeal andenergy. Side by side we had labored in <strong>the</strong> cause of Christ <strong>for</strong> thirty-six years; and wehoped that we might stand toge<strong>the</strong>r to witness <strong>the</strong> triumphant close.
