The evil will increase faster than <strong>the</strong> good. It is possible that<strong>the</strong> evil <strong>the</strong>y have learned may be eradicated after many years; but who will venturethis? Time is short. It is easier and much safer to sow clean and good seed in <strong>the</strong> heartsof your children than to pluck up <strong>the</strong> weeds afterward. It is <strong>the</strong> duty of parents to watchlest surrounding influences have an injurious effect upon <strong>the</strong>ir children. It is <strong>the</strong>ir dutyto select <strong>the</strong> society <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>m and not suffer <strong>the</strong>m to choose <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>mselves. Who willattend to this work if <strong>the</strong> parents do not? Can o<strong>the</strong>rs have that interest <strong>for</strong> your childrenwhich you should have? Can <strong>the</strong>y have that constant care and deep love that parentshave?Sabbathkeeping children may become impatient of restraint, and think <strong>the</strong>ir parentstoo strict; hard feelings may even arise in <strong>the</strong>ir hearts, and discontented, unhappythoughts may be cherished by <strong>the</strong>m against those who are working <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir presentand <strong>the</strong>ir future and eternal good. But if life shall be spared a few years, <strong>the</strong>y will bless<strong>the</strong>ir parents <strong>for</strong> that strict care and faithful watchfulness over <strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong>ir years ofinexperience. Parents should explain and simplify <strong>the</strong> plan of salvation to <strong>the</strong>ir childrenthat <strong>the</strong>ir young minds may comprehend it. Children of eight, ten, or twelve years areold enough to be addressed on <strong>the</strong> subject of personal religion. Do not teach yourchildren with reference to some future period when <strong>the</strong>y shall be old enough to repentand believe <strong>the</strong> truth. If properly instructed, very young children may have correctviews of <strong>the</strong>ir state as sinners and of <strong>the</strong> way of salvation through Christ. Ministersare generally too indifferent to <strong>the</strong> salvation of children and are not as personal as<strong>the</strong>y should be. Golden opportunities to impress <strong>the</strong> minds of children frequently passunimproved.The evil influence around our children is almost overpowering; it is corrupting <strong>the</strong>irminds and leading <strong>the</strong>m down to400
