In likemanner also, that women adorn <strong>the</strong>mselves in modest apparel, with shamefacednessand sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (whichbecometh women professing godliness) with good works.”Peter writes to <strong>the</strong> church: “Where<strong>for</strong>e gird up <strong>the</strong> loins of your mind, be sober,and hope to <strong>the</strong> end <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> grace that is to be brought unto you at <strong>the</strong> revelation ofJesus Christ; as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>merlusts in your ignorance: but as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in allmanner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; <strong>for</strong> I am holy.”The inspired Paul directs Titus to give special instructions to <strong>the</strong> church of Christ,“that <strong>the</strong>y may adorn <strong>the</strong> doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.” He says: “Teachingus that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, andgodly, in this present world; looking <strong>for</strong> that blessed hope, and <strong>the</strong> glorious appearingof <strong>the</strong> great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave Himself <strong>for</strong> us, that He mightredeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of goodworks.”Peter exhorts <strong>the</strong> churches to “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary <strong>the</strong>devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” “The end of allthings is at hand: be ye <strong>the</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e sober, and watch unto prayer.” Again he says: “Butsanctify <strong>the</strong> Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to everyman that asketh you a reason of <strong>the</strong> hope that is in you with meekness and fear: havinga good conscience; that, whereas <strong>the</strong>y speak evil of you, as of evildoers, <strong>the</strong>y may beashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. For it is better, if <strong>the</strong>will of God be so, that ye suffer <strong>for</strong> well-doing, than <strong>for</strong> evil-doing.”Are <strong>the</strong> youth in a position where <strong>the</strong>y can with meekness507
