I saw that both the South and the North were being punished. In regard to theSouth, I was referred to Deuteronomy 32:35-37: “To Me belongeth vengeance, andrecompense; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand,and the things that shall come upon them make haste. For the Lord shall judge Hispeople, and repent Himself for His servants, when He seeth that their power is gone,and there is none shut up, or left. And He shall say, Where are their Gods, their rock inwhom they trusted?”*****Chap. 70 - Dangers and Duty of MinistersI have been shown that more can now be accomplished by laboring in places wherea few have been raised up, than in entirely new fields, unless the opening is very good.A few in different towns who really believe the truth will exert an influence and exciteinquiry in regard to their faith; and if their lives are exemplary, their light will shine,and they will have a gathering influence. And yet I was shown places where the truthhas not been proclaimed, which should be visited soon. But the great work now to beaccomplished is to bring up the people of God to engage in the work and exert a holyinfluence. They should act the part of laborers. With wisdom, caution, and love, theyshould labor for the salvation of neighbors and friends. There is too distant a feelingmanifested. The cross is not laid right hold of and borne as it should be. All shouldfeel that they are their brother’s keeper, that they are in a great degree responsible forthe souls of those around them. The brethren err when they leave this work all tothe ministers. The harvest is great, and the laborers are few. Those who are of goodrepute, whose lives are in accordance with their faith, can be workmen. They canconverse with others, and urge upon368
