God will have a peopleseparate and distinct from <strong>the</strong> world. And as soon as any have a desire to imitate <strong>the</strong>fashions of <strong>the</strong> world, that <strong>the</strong>y do not immediately subdue, just so soon God ceases toacknowledge <strong>the</strong>m as His children. I saw that some of <strong>the</strong>m take so willfuland selfish a course that Satan makes <strong>the</strong>m his instruments and works through <strong>the</strong>m todestroy <strong>the</strong> influence and usefulness of <strong>the</strong>ir husbands. They feel at liberty to complainand murmur if <strong>the</strong>y are brought through any strait places. They <strong>for</strong>get <strong>the</strong> sufferingsof <strong>the</strong> ancient Christians <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> truth’s sake and think that <strong>the</strong>y must have <strong>the</strong>ir wishesand way, and follow <strong>the</strong>ir own will. They <strong>for</strong>get <strong>the</strong> suffering of Jesus, <strong>the</strong>ir Master.They <strong>for</strong>get <strong>the</strong> Man of Sorrows, who was acquainted with grief—He who had notwhere to lay His137
