Ι have known anatolia college for a long time, both as a law faculty member
at the aristotle university interested in education in general, and as a
parent of two daughters who graduated from this school. I was always impressed
by its long history, its smooth operation, and its successes in the
educational sector, but I never had the opportunity to learn enough about
its governance. serge hadji-Mihaloglou’s case study has triggered my interest
and has offered me food for thought.
I must admit that the thorough analysis of the college’s governance system
by serge hadji-Mihaloglou, who, being an experienced corporate
lawyer, has employed his experience and has devoted a lot of time and effort
as a trustee of the Institution, has impressed me and has helped me to
understand the factors on which the successful development of anatolia is
based. reading his paper one becomes aware that this success is not accidental.
the framework of the system is very carefully structured, with designated
targets and specifications, according to which the persons who will
govern the Institution are selected. the balance regarding the attributes and
qualifications of the trustees is quite apparent. the system possesses control
mechanisms, the competence of each organ is clearly defined and well
distributed, and is governed by the - so correct - principle of “guarding the
guardians.” It is evident that at anatolia there is a working system of
checks and balances.
