1. carl compton’s memoirs, “The Morning Cometh: My 45 Years with <strong>Anatolia</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong>,” are a riveting account of 1913-1959. they were republished under that<br />

title “Supplemented by Carl Compton’s UNRRA Letters to his Wife Ruth” (2 nd<br />

rev. ed.William r. compton, dr. deborah Brown Kazazis, and serge hadji-<br />

Mihaloglou, lucy Braggiotti, athens 2008, hereinafter “ccc”). former trustee<br />

antonis Kamaras’ (’83) inspirational commencement address to the hs class of<br />

2011 which urges public service carries that tradition forward.<br />

2. the backing of the faculty is exemplified by the employment of progressive<br />

academics, such as Profs. n. Papahadjis and a. Georgopapadakos, even in the<br />

face of hostile governmental policies. richard l. Jackson, 9 th President of anatolia<br />

college (1999-2009), places it in perspective in his ccc foreword:<br />

“…(R)equired ‘Certificates of Political Beliefs’ foreclosed…employment in the<br />

public sector… In the omnipresent Greek State with its pervasive and onerous regulations<br />

(those who did not sympathize with the regime) were virtual outcasts.”<br />

3. eminent thessalonian (’38) and trustee emeritus. excerpt from his letter to<br />

the Board upon his May 2011 election to emeritus.<br />

4. Gymnasiarch of the then six-grade Boys’ Gymnasium (high school) and<br />

nationally renowned anatolia philologist (1950’s-1980’s). author of the “Large<br />

Dictionary of the Modern Greek Language” (in Greek, a. Georgopapadakos,<br />

athens-thessaloniki Malliaris-Pedia 1992-1993.)<br />

5. the historic tertiary education governance proposal is the Προσχέδιο Νόμου<br />

Οργάνωσης Ανώτατης Εκπαίδευσης (“Draft Bill Organizing Higher Education”)<br />

appearing, inter alia, in Naftemboriki July 5, 2011 and summarized in the press<br />

(hereinafter “draft Bill”). see, e.g. «Αλλάζουν Όλα Στο Πανεπιστήμιο» (“Everything<br />

this legislation passed on aug. 24, 2011 with over 250 votes in Parliament<br />

(excluding only the two left parties - KKe and ΣΥΡΙΖΑ). the entrenched administrators’<br />

opposition and sit-ins by student political factions are finally yielding to<br />

the overwhelming majority. law 4009/2011 (sept. 6, 2011) entitled «Δομή, Λειτουργία,<br />

Διασφάλιση της Ποιότητας των Σπουδών και Διεθνοποίηση των Ανώτατων<br />
