10 th President anatolia college<br />

serge hadji-Mihaloglou’s (’60) Presentation on institutional governance is<br />

a most valuable resource for our entire academic community, as it reflects<br />

the special, benevolent character of anatolia’s dna. It provides very<br />

helpful and insightful descriptions of the governance and administrative<br />

processes here at anatolia and reveals how they are linked together under<br />

the “inspiring guidance and direction” of the Board of trustees.<br />

anatolia’s stated ambition is that of being an “integrated academic com -<br />

munity.” each student, teacher, parent, administrator, staff, and alumnus or<br />

alumna is a vital member of this community. thus, it is essential that everyone<br />

understands how the community is governed, and especially, that decisions<br />

about the campus’ present and future circumstances are not made<br />

in a vacuum, but that there is extensive discussion and consideration of key<br />

policy issues and questions by multiple parties as decisions are reached and<br />

implemented.<br />

one of the key features of being a member of the anatolia community is<br />

a spirit of mutual accountability. everyone here is accountable to other<br />

members of the community. In my own case, I am accountable to the 34<br />

members of the Board of trustees, its 11 standing committees, to my own<br />

cabinet colleagues, and to my family members who are also part of this<br />

residential campus. In the cases of our dedicated and committed staff and<br />

faculty, they may be directly responsible to a vice president, or a dean, or<br />

a department head, but they are also responsible to the students (and their
