the corporation<br />

looking at the legal vessel, anatolia college is a fairly typical american<br />

non-profit 44 corporation without members. 45 It is incorporated since 1894<br />

under the laws of the commonwealth of Massachusetts, with its principal<br />

office in Boston. It is a legal entity or person and its basic governing provisions<br />

are set forth in its charter, called the “Act of Incorpo ration,” or<br />

“Restated Articles of Organization,” as well as its By-laws. formally, the<br />

corporation itself is called “the Trustees of <strong>Anatolia</strong> <strong>College</strong>” (act of Incorporation<br />

art.1).<br />

Its purpose is“(t)o maintain an institution for the education of young men<br />

and women” (act of Incorporation art. 2). the By-laws amplify that<br />

“(t)he primary purpose of the corporation is to establish and maintain an<br />

educational institution in Greece which currently consists of “<strong>Anatolia</strong> <strong>College</strong>”<br />

(“the High School” i.e. the two Lykeia, the two Gymnasia and the<br />

I.B.),“The American <strong>College</strong> of Thessaloniki,” an accredited institution of<br />

higher learning (the “<strong>College</strong>,” i.e. “ACT”), and the “<strong>Anatolia</strong> Elementary<br />

School” (By-laws art.1). the Massachusetts corporation operates the high<br />

school and the trustees have formed two local associations, or somatia,<br />

the “<strong>Anatolia</strong> Association of Post-Secondary Education and Vocational<br />

Training,” and the “<strong>Anatolia</strong> Educational Group,” to control act and the<br />

elementary school respectively. 46
