arships to anatolia than any other individual and who has become a vicechair;
Petros apostolides (’54), former alumni (ΣΑΑΚ) President, and
angelos Billis (’47), former friends’ President. the inclusion of a recent
graduate each year was also tried.
Board size grew. since the 1980’s, the trustees also started meeting on
campus annually. More recently, athenians, including alumni, have been
systematically enrolled.
the present nucleus was formed under George Bissell, our longest serving
trustee since 1965, former Board chair and anatolia’s leading benefactor,
after whom the Bissell library is named. throughout, the Presidents have
been in the vanguard of the Board’s nominations advancing the school’s
outreach and development goals as part of this process as well. today’s
communications and globe-trotting Board members facilitate matters.
Governance report and recommendations
In May 2010 the Board approved the report and recommendations on Governance
by the subcommittee on trustees (hereinafter “recommendations”
or “r”), 17 which had been commissioned by the Board chair with the President’s
support. the mandate had been “to review and recommend ways
and means of enhancing the efficiency and operations of the Board.”
(r Background). specifically, the subcommittee had been “tasked with
reviewing and making recommendations on: ideal board composition and
demographics 18 (including skill sets and culture); 19 trustee performance
evaluation and tenure; trustee categories; trustee orientation and transparency;
board meeting logistics; and committee structure and operations.”
(r Background). the By-laws were amended, as necessary, and the recommendations
have started to be implemented. this Presentation reflects
them.
