59. the author thanks Peter chressanthakes, vP Institutional advancement, for<br />
his support and initiatives. Mr. chressanthakes is the Board Governance committee’s<br />
secretary and cabinet liaison, and, among other things, tracked and compiled<br />
the data for the section I and vII tabulations supra.<br />
60. The <strong>Anatolia</strong>n of fall 2011 reports that in the preceding academic year the<br />
high school graduated 235 students, including 72 from the IB program. In his<br />
sept. 2, 2011 hs faculty address, theodoros filaretos, vP secondary education,<br />
noted that of the students who were accepted by Greek institutions of higher edu -<br />
cation, 85% were accepted at Greek state universities and only 15% by teI’s<br />
(the three-year technical institutes). of these, 6 students enrolled in Greek medical<br />
schools, 2 will study pharmacy, 39 engineering, 16 law, and 15 economics.<br />
President Giesecke sums up: “Adding these results to the placement of IB graduates<br />
at both US and other European Universities, the aggregate picture makes<br />
<strong>Anatolia</strong> justifiably proud. Overall, 33 <strong>Anatolia</strong> High School graduates have<br />
elected to enroll in the US for fall 2011. Two <strong>Anatolia</strong> IB students have enrolled<br />
at Harvard; others have chosen to enroll at MIT, University of Chicago, Smith<br />
<strong>College</strong>, Tufts University, Reed <strong>College</strong>, and many others. In addition, there were<br />
37 who elected to attend university in the UK...(including) Imperial <strong>College</strong><br />
London, University <strong>College</strong> London, King’s <strong>College</strong> London, the University of<br />
Edinburgh, and City University London. Two IB students were admitted to medical<br />
schools in the UK (Glasgow, East Anglia). This year’s IB acceptances span many<br />
other EU countries, notably France (Université de Montpellier), Hungary (Semmelweis<br />
Medical School), Italy (Bocconi University), Switzerland (University of<br />

62. In 2009/2010, the transparency International Greek PcI (perceived corruption<br />
index) was the highest in the 27 eu countries. a study found that corruption<br />
is a lesser known obstacle to educational reform (besides the unions, vested interests,<br />
and bureaucratic chokes) and any improvement would need to limit it.
