Tokyo’s Most Popular Cherry Blossom Spots
Shinjuku Gyoen
Missed the main cherry blossoms season by a week or
two? Shinjuku Gyoen is a good alternative for hanami
destination – thanks to the early and late blooming
trees. It features more than one thousand cherry trees
of over a dozen varieties and has spacious lawn areas
that create a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Ueno Park
Ueno Park is one of Japan’s most crowded, noisy and
popular spots for cherry blossom parties. It has more
than 1000 trees lining up the street that lead toward
the National Museum and around Shinobazu Pond.
The park’s blossoms usually blooms one to three days
ahead of other blossoms around the city.
Chidorigafuchi
This is one of the area in Tokyo that offers a spectacular
view of cherry blossoms. With hundreds of cherry trees
decorating the moats of former Edo Castle around
Kitanomaru Park, Chidorigafuchi is indeed a sight to
behold. There are rowing boats for rent and food stands
around the area too.
Sumida Park
The park is about a few hundred metres long and
situated along both sides of Sumida River with views
of the Tokyo Sky Tree. For a different experience,
cherry blossoms viewing can be enjoyed by taking a
boat ride along the river. And if you are a night owl,
the viewing can be done at night as the trees are lit
up in the evening.
