4 Must-Go Underground
Why shop underground when you can shop above ground? Simply for its unique
experience. A perfect shelter from sudden downpours in summer days and cold
winds in winter, these underground malls in Seoul, South Korea can offer you a
shopping experience just as amazing as its above ground cousins. Plus, they are
easily accessible as the malls are located near to public transportation. This means
that you can shop comfortably till you drop (literally) without having to worry
about the weather outside.
Are they expensive places? Not really. These underground malls boasts a large
number of shops that offer affordable yet reasonable prices than stores at famous
tourist shopping locations such as Sinsadong Garosu-gil Road or Myeong-dong.
Goto Mall
Gangnam Terminal Underground Shopping Center,
or often known as "Goto mall" in short, is linked to
one of the major subway transfer stations in which
Seoul subway lines 3, 7 and 9 operate. It was renovated
in 2012 and houses about 600 stores; thus making it
one of the largest underground shopping malls in
Seoul. A well-known shopping heaven for women, it
has all the latest clothing trends, accessories,
cosmetics, interior products, whole sale flowers and
many more. Need a fix for your growling stomach?
Not a problem, there are plenty of restaurants and
food courts at the end of the mall if you are feeling
hungry after a shopping spree. This mall is also nearby
to places of attraction such as Bangpo Bridge Rainbow
Fountain, Shinsegae Department Store – Gangnam
Branch and Sinsadong Garosu-gil Road.
Yeongdeungpo Underground Mall
The first impression you get of that long-standing hub of
public transportation in Seoul, Yeongdeungpo, is that it is
always crowded; with the numbers rising steadily
since the opening of Times Square, a mega
shopping mall, in 2009. Thus, Yeongdeungpo is
truly a busy, happening hotspot! Yeongdeungpo
Underground Mall offers affordable shopping
products to people of all age groups with only
just one catch: most of the stores here sell
menswear. But due to its close proximity to
Shinsegae Department Store and Times Square,
both of which offer a plethora of other shopping
varieties, the lack thereof in Yeongdeungpo is
therefore compensated.
