Penang Builds The Longest Bridge
in Southeast Asia
Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah or popularly
known as Second Penang Bridge or Penang Second Bridge
is the longest bridge in Southeast Asia. 24 km in length, it will
take motorists about 20 minutes to cross from Batu Kawan on
the mainland to Batu Maung on the island. Although Penang
already has a bridge that links the mainland to the island, the
new bridge is expected to ease traffic by 25 per cent and it
will last for the next 120 years. But, why is the bridge curved,
you ask? Simply to reduce traffic accidents!
