Penang Builds The Longest Bridge<br />

in Southeast Asia<br />

Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah or popularly<br />

known as Second Penang Bridge or Penang Second Bridge<br />

is the longest bridge in Southeast Asia. 24 km in length, it will<br />

take motorists about 20 minutes to cross from Batu Kawan on<br />

the mainland to Batu Maung on the island. Although Penang<br />

already has a bridge that links the mainland to the island, the<br />

new bridge is expected to ease traffic by 25 per cent and it<br />

will last for the next 120 years. But, why is the bridge curved,<br />

you ask? Simply to reduce traffic accidents!<br />
