MANAGING
EUROPE'S FASTEST
GROWING AIRPORT
Convergence Speaks to Dato' Azmi Murad,
Executive Director of SGIA on his experience managing
Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SGIA)
The Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International
Airport (SGIA) will soon have the capacity
to accommodate and serve more than 60
million passengers, as well as double its
current aircrafts movement after the
completion of its terminal expansion and
the construction of the second runway.
SGIA’s second runway featuring two rapidexit-taxiways
will be completed by 2018.
The owner of SGIA, Malaysia Airports, has
started to enjoy good returns from the
airport’s strong growth in passenger traffic
since its full acquisition of SGIA at the end
of 2014. Named after Turkey’s first female
combat pilot, Sabiha Gokcen, SGIA is one
of the world’s fastest-growing airports and
has been Europe’s fastest-growing airport
for the last five years. And, Malaysia
Airports is the first Asian company to own
100 per cent of a European airport.
Doing Malaysia proud, Executive Director
of SGIA, Dato’ Azmi Murad shared with
Convergence about his experiences and
plans to turn SGIA into the most
competitive airport in Turkey.
