“Smart” Baggage Check-In
4
Thanks to the latest innovation from RIMOWA,
you can now check in your bags from home
or anywhere else through a tap on the screen.
Known as the RIMOWA Electronic Tag,
travellers can now choose to check in their bag via their
smartphone. All you have to do is just send over your digital
boarding card by enabling Bluetooth connection from your
smartphone to your piece of luggage that is fitted with the
RIMOWA Electronic Tag and your bag will be checked-in
within seconds. Currently, this new convenient service is only
offered by certain airlines such as Lufthansa, which worked
with RIMOWA in trialling this technology.
Off-site Bag Drop
5
Offering a similar service to baggage delivery,
off-site or remote bag drop is when passengers
can check-in and drop off their bags at a central
location in the city. The service is already being
offered by Abu Dhabi Airports Company, Las Vegas McCarran
International Airport and Air Arabia and is yet to become a
mainstream thing for passengers. Closer to home, the off-site
bag drop service is offered at KL Sentral for five airlines -
Malaysia Airlines, Royal Brunei Airlines, Cathay Pacific,
Emirates and Etihad Airways.
Last But Not Least
The provision of such baggage processing solutions by certain
airports and airlines are nevertheless beneficial for passengers.
Given the merits, passengers should be given rights to choose
the type of baggage services that would best suit them. But
till then, all airlines and airports are persevering to come up
with solutions that can ensure a seamless passenger experience
for all.
