Lily of the Valley –
Finland and
Yugoslavia
These delicate, tiny belly-shaped
flowers are Finland and Yugoslavia’s
national flower. Lily of the Valley
produces an extremely sweet smell
that makes it a favourite to be used in
both perfumes and bridal bouquets.
The flower can often be found in cool,
shady spots and grows in colonies that
spread so quickly that it can take over
a garden in a short amount of time.
Tulips – Netherlands,
Hungary and Turkey
Think tulips are from Netherlands?
Contrary to popular beliefs, Tulips
actually originate from Hungary where
it travelled along with the Ottoman
Empire to Turkey before reaching
Netherlands’ shores. Tulips were so
popular then that the entire branch of
Dutch commerce is based on Tulip
trade in the 1600s. Now, isn’t that
fascinating?
Jasmine – Pakistan and
Syria
Jasmine has been cultivated for
thousands of years for its tiny, starshaped
flowers and intoxicating
fragrance. Its pure white colour
symbolises purity and peace and
happens to be the national flower of
Pakistan and Syria. Jasmine is
commonly used in cosmetics,
perfume, cooking, aromatherapy,
garlands, as hair decorations and in
various cultural ceremonies.
