Gunung Angsi, Negeri Sembilan
Want an easy hike that allows you to take in fantastic views of its
surroundings at your own pace? Gunung Angsi in Negeri Sembilan
is your best bet. Located only about an hour’s drive from Kuala
Lumpur, Gunung Angsi is claimed to be one of the easiest mountains
to hike in Malaysia. The mountain itself is no higher than 825 metres
and completing the hike takes roughly about three hours; making
this a doable half-day escapade from busy city life. The trail leading
up to the summit is fairly easy; there is only one section of long,
steep path along a ridge of the hill. Other than that, the path is
well-defined most of the way. Look out for the red and white striped
tapes that have been tied to trees at strategic locations. They are
markers to guide you through this hike.
Bukit Kledang, Perak
Rising above the suburb of Menglembu on the western edge of
Ipoh is Bukit Kledang. Highly popular amongst Ipoh folks, Bukit
Kledang stands at 800m (2,640 feet) and offers a great view of the
Ipoh skyline. So whether you are in for a biking, walking, running
or jungle trekking session with your family or friends, Bukit Kledang
has plenty to give. The trails to the hilltop consist of several jungle
treks with four most prominent hiking trails: 4-2 (1 hour to complete),
4-3 (1½ hours to complete), 4-9 (2 hours to complete) and RTM (4
hours to complete). Wondering why the trail is called 'RTM'? Well,
that's because it is the longest trail that ends with a broadcasting
tower perched on top of Kledang Hill. And as the road is paved,
you can drive a car (a 4WD preferably) following the RTM trail to
the peak.
Gunung Ledang, Johor
A hike up a mountain that is steeped in culture and legend can offer
you an experience unlike any other. It is in Gunung Ledang where
you can hike and learn what makes this mountain so legendary
amongst the locals. Situated just inside Johor’s border with only
about 30km away from Melaka, Gunung Ledang – also known as
Mount Ophir in English – is the tallest peak in Johor and provides
breathtaking natural sceneries with excellent views atop its summit.
The mountain is easily accessible, being only a couple of hours drive
from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. To reach the summit, it will take
about 5 to 6 hours of energetic hike for a reasonably fit person. Also
to note, there are some steep rocky faces in this mountain which
can only be climbed with the aid of ropes.
