Permanent bag tags
1
Permanent bag tag is a reusable tag that
incorporates the Near Field Communication
(NFC) and/or Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) technology designed to replace the
traditional paper bag tag. While it is not a brand new
concept, the tag does its trick by improving baggage
handling experience by allowing easy tracking. It is, in
fact, a tag that can be used even in the smallest airports in
the world.
A permanent bag tag called ViewTag, which satisfies IATA’s
standard is now being trialled by British Airways. The tag
offers better data integrity and allow readers to read the tag
at a distance of up to 15 metres.
Home-printed bag tags
2
Although permanent bag tags are convenient,
not all airlines will adopt this method and
similarly not all passengers will fancy this sort
of technology. An alternative to this is the homeprinted
bag tag which is already being used by Iberia (Spain)
and Billund Airport (Denmark). The main benefit of home-printed
bag tag is that it enables passengers to print out their own
bag tags for their check-in baggage to speed up the check-in
process. In a way, it allows passengers to have control over
how to best enhance their own travelling experience. This
would certainly satisfy even the most demanding of travellers
as it reduces the queuing times at the airport.
Baggage delivery
3
Going on a long vacation and not liking the idea
of travelling in a public transport lugging in three to
four bags? Stress less, there is an alternative. If you
are flying to and from London, you will find a
baggage delivery service called AirPortr helpful. The service enables
you to have your bags delivered directly to your respective hotel
once you land and from your hotel to the airport for the return
journey. All you have to do is either book in advance via a
smartphone or register for the service. Plus, you can even track the
status of your bag from your mobile and receive an SMS notification
once it has been delivered. Needless to say, baggage delivery
allows you as a traveller with more flexibility and time to do what
you want to with less stress and burden, whether it is to attend an
important business meeting or visit London’s many tourist attractions.
