Confessions of a
Travelholic
Sasha Bashir
Sasha Bashir is no stranger to the Malaysian
dance scene. Her passion for live theatre
performance saw her taking the lead role in
acclaimed productions such as Lady Swettenham,
My Bollywood Summer, Titiwangsa and Emas 10
where she acted and also danced. Sasha also
co-created, co-produced and hosted a documentary
about Asian dances titled 'Dansa' which was
aired on TV3 and NTV7.
She also published her very first coffee table book
based on the documentary entitled 'Dansa - A
Dance Journey', featuring over 250 photos taken
while shooting the dance documentary.
Encouraging response for the book prompted
Sasha to pen her second book, 'Dansa II: The
Journey Continues', which was launched early
this year. Convergence spoke to the multitalented
Sasha, who is
also an avid traveller,
about her adventure.
Congratulations on the release
of Dansa II. Can you please tell
us more about the book?
Dansa II is about the traditional dances as seen in
Season 2 of Dansa. They range from countries such
as Malaysia, Macau, Taiwan and Thailand. They are
all various dances from different places, some of which
people haven’t even heard of (including me). So, it
serves as a great reference point for future generation.
I just find the Dansa II book more colourful than the
first one because I shared the experience and whatever
information and history that I got while travelling. We
also worked closely with tourism companies and the
local Pejabat Kebudayaan who recommended us the
various dances.
