Pine Tree Trail, Pahang
The Pine Tree Trail in Fraser’s Hill remains the most
challenging and toughest trekking path in the region.
The trail is about 5.5km long with paths that winds up
and down across several tops and ridges before arriving
at the summit of Pine Tree Hill and Rhodo Hill. As
strenuous as it may sound, you will love this hike; there
is a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape of
forests and mountains await you at the top.
Gunung Kinabalu, Sabah
If you are an avid hiker, a trip to Sabah to hike Gunung Kinabalu
should be at the top of your list. Gunung Kinabalu is the
highest mountain in the country and the third highest in
Southeast Asia. Plus, the mountain is surrounded by the
Kinabalu National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. Conquering this majestic mountain is no easy feat. You
will need to have a substantial level of physical and mental
stamina to hike it. A round-trip up Gunung Kinabalu usually
takes about two full days and a permit is required before hikers
can venture up the slopes.
Gunung Tahan, Pahang
What’s a better way to explore the 130 million years old virgin
rainforest than doing a trek? Gunung Tahan in Taman Negara,
Pahang is one of the toughest and adventurous trails known
in Malaysia. Hiking Gunung Tahan is an activity more suited
for those who are physically and mentally fit. You will need to
gather enough strength and preparation for the challenges
ahead, including making an on-and-off ascent and descent
between mountains and crossing rivers. Be prepared for long
distance trekking as well as camping for a few nights in the
jungle. Other than that, the hike at Gunung Tahan might just
be the best hiking experience you will ever have.
