10 Colourful Salads
From Around the Globe To
Brighten The Holiday
Salads are more than just two pieces of green leaves and a whole stack
of carrots. If you get creative enough just like the Italians and Greeks, you
can have a salad meal that is just as filling as a proper real meal. And
besides, they are healthy and perfect for those going on diet! Served
alone or as accompaniment to a meal, chefs and cooks from all over the
world have invented plenty of full-flavoured salads to show us how fresh
and delicious salads can be.
So, what are you waiting for? Let the drooling begin!
Salpicon de res
Ingredients: Beef flank or skirt steak, chopped onion,
olive oil, vinegar, oregano, salt and pepper, seeded and
chopped tomatoes, thinly sliced onion, serrano peppers,
chopped avocado
A popular salad throughout Central America, Salpicon de res
is a shredded beef salad that is refreshing and great as topping
for tostada (a Mexican deep-fried tortilla topped with a
seasoned mixture of beans, ground meat and vegetables) or
wrapped in fresh corn tortillas. Alternatively, you can substitute
beef with chicken, seafood or tuna or replace vinegar with
orange juice or lime juice for a more tropical flavour.
Kartoffelsalat
Ingredients for Southern style: Potatoes, hot beef or
chicken broth, onion, oil, vinegar, brown or Dijon mustard,
sugar, salt and pepper, chopped chives or parsley
This tangy potato salad from Germany comes in two different
versions; the difference of which lies in its sauce. Mayonnaise
is used in the north while the southern regions of Swabia and
Bavaria as well as Austria use hot broth, oil and vinegar. You
can choose to add diced cooked bacon in the salad for a
crispier texture or substitute oil and vinegar with sunflower
oil and white wine vinegar.
