Ueno Park, Japan
When to go: Late March to Early April
Heading over to the East, one would expect
nothing but a spectacular display of cherry blossoms in
the heart of Japan. Ueno Park, one of Tokyo’s most
popular and lively cherry blossom spots, boasts about
1000 cherry trees lining up its central pathway. No
wonder this place is so crowded with a large
number of hanami (cherry blossom viewing)
revellers each spring. This park is also home
to notable temples, shrines and museums
and conveniently located next to Ueno
Station in central Tokyo.
Jeju Island,
South Korea
When to go: March till May
Neighbouring Japan is East Asia’s most beautiful
island called Jeju Island in South Korea. Offering plenty of
photo opportunities to travellers at every corner, this scenic
island is painted in colours of pink, yellow and green
each spring. The transition into spring from winter in
this island is palpable as you notice the
progressive change in colour of flowers such as
cherry blossoms, canola, green barley, camellia
and azaleas blooming. With festivals aplenty
throughout March till May, Jeju Island is
indeed a scenic haven
for all.
Provence,
France
When to go: March till May
Why is it a good idea to visit this French province
in spring? Simply to avoid the summer crowd and hot
weather. While Provence is famous for lavender and
sunflower in summer, spring offers an entire different view.
The hills, for instance, will be covered with creamy drifts of
almond blossoms as well as cherry and soft fruit trees.
Not only that, you will be greeted with rich scents of
rosemary, wild thyme and Mediterranean pine plus
bright colours of purple-pink Centranthus ruber,
yellow broom and red poppies; all of which will
wither away under the fierce midsummer sun.
This is why spring is an ideal time
to see them.
