Malaysia Airports
Helping The Local
Communities in Sarawak
Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali,
presented the cheque and 10 bicycles to eBario Sdn. Bhd.
Managing Director of Malaysia Airports,
Datuk Badlisham Ghazali visited Miri, Bario
and Marudi, Sarawak for a good cause.
These respective places are where Malaysia
Airports’ houses its three operating
airports, namely Miri Airport, STOLport
(Short Take-Off and Landing Airport) Bario
and Marudi.
“We are pleased to contribute back to the
community where we conduct our business
operations in. We believe that the terrains
and natural beauty of Bario has great
potential to be developed into a tourist
attraction in the state,” said Badlisham.
To support the initiative, Malaysia Airports
presented 10 bicycles with a total value of
RM5,000 to eBario Sdn. Bhd. at STOLport
Bario to manage and supervise tourism
activities around Bario; with proceeds going
towards the Kelabit community in Bario.
For those who didn’t know, eBario Sdn.
Bhd. (eBario) is a local company that is
responsible for managing and carrying out
tourism activities in the Bario region. Along
with that, Malaysia Airports also donated a
cheque worth RM5,000 to build a bike shed
that can house the 10 sponsored bicycles.
To build up the excitement, Malaysia
Airports will be collaborating with a
school to organise a bicycle shed
designing competition where the winner,
with the most creative design, will win
prizes of monetary value.
The good deeds didn’t just stop there.
Malaysia Airports even presented a zakat
of about RM11,000 to three suraus and a
mosque at a visit in STOLport Marudi. The
contribution will be used for the purpose
of improving the existing facilities as
well as to cover the costs of utilities and
management expenses of the suraus and
a mosque.
STOLport is operated and managed
by Malaysia Airports and located in the
remote areas of Sabah, Sarawak and three
islands in Peninsular Malaysia. At present,
there are 18 STOLports from the 39 airports
managed and operated by Malaysia
Airports. Managing, operating and
controlling STOLport is part of Malaysia
Airports’ corporate social responsibility in
ensuring the communities in remote areas
can have access and facilities to receiving
food supplies, medicine and education.
