Contributing to
Malaysia’s Economic
Development
For the betterment of Malaysia, Malaysia
Airports have collaborated closely with
relevant stakeholders such as the Malaysia
Aerospace Council and the National
Logistics and Trade Facilitation Taskforce.
Centred on three development clusters –
namely air cargo & logistics, business &
aviation and MICE & leisure, the three
clusters identified are in line with several
of the country’s development agenda, such
as the National Logistics and Trade
Facilitation Masterplan, the National
Aerospace Blueprint 2015 – 2030 as
well as various National Key Economic
Areas (NKEA) tourism initiatives.
With over 20 development projects
identified, the projects are expected to
reel in direct investments of up to RM7 billion from both foreign
and domestic investors over the next five years. That aside, the
master plan will see the core area around KLIA and klia2 being
developed into a vibrant hub of economic activity that leverages
on the country’s strategic development plans for the aviation and
tourism sectors. The Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang, which was
opened in July 2015, is among them. The outlet is a joint venture
between Malaysia Airports and Mitsui Fudosan, a Japanese
Real Estate and Retail Property Developer. Its first phase which
consists of 140 shops spanning over 250 square metres will be
further expanded into two phases – one in 2018 and another
in 2021 – to eventually accommodate 260 outlets over 46,300
square metres.
All in all, Malaysia Airports is playing its part in facilitating the
development of KLIA Aeropolis by first executing the plan in phases
with plenty of initiatives and activities ramped up to make KLIA
Aeropolis a reality. Meanwhile, Malaysia Airports will remain
firmly focused in its pursuit to create more joyful experience by
connecting people and businesses in order to a successful
realisation of the vision “To Be The Global Leader in Creating
Airport Cities”.
