8.3.5 Synchronously Pump<strong>ed</strong> Raman Lasers<br />

The prec<strong>ed</strong>ing section has focus<strong>ed</strong> on single-pass SRS. By placing the fiber inside a<br />

cavity (see Figure 8.6), a single-pass SRS configuration can be turn<strong>ed</strong> into a Raman<br />

laser. Such lasers were discuss<strong>ed</strong> in Section 8.2.2 in the case of CW or quasi-CW<br />

operation (T 0 ∼1 ns). This section considers Raman lasers pump<strong>ed</strong> synchronously to<br />

emit short optical pulses with widths
