“I WANNA SCARE MYSELF” 89
film Bolt (2008). Cyrus and Travolta, who voice the two major characters
in the film, sing the number about the joyous relief of finding one who was
thought lost forever, the lyric paralleling the plot of the movie.
“I 2 I” is the pounding rock song by Patrick DeRemer and Roy Freeland
that is sung by the rock star Powerline (voice of Tevin Campbell) in concert
near the end of the animated film A Goofy Movie (1995). The rhythmic
number about a love that took a long time to be discovered is reprised by
Campbell and Rosie Gaines on the soundtrack over the closing credits of
the movie.
“I Wanna Be a Boy” is the satirical “I am” song written by Brian Woodbury
and Peter Lurye for the brainy dog Spot (voice of Nathan Lane) in the
animated movie Teacher’s Pet (2004), based on the 2000 television series.
As Spot disguises himself as a boy and heads for school, he sings about his
dream of becoming a real boy someday, just like Pinocchio did. The fast and
funny number is picked up by various children also going to school, the tots
proclaiming that Spot wants to be human.
“I Wan’na Be Like You” is one of the most swinging and contagious of all
Disney songs, a jazzy number by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman that is
a highlight of the animated movie The Jungle Book (1967). The orangutan
King Louis of the Apes (voice of Louis Prima) sings the enthusiastic number
about how he wishes he were human to the kidnapped man-cub Mowgli,
and then he and the other apes break into a wild and farcical dance.
The bear Baloo (Phil Harris) tries to rescue Mowgli by performing the song
disguised as an ape, but he gets so carried away singing and dancing that his
plot is discovered. A fun duet recording of the number was made by Brian
Sutherland and Andrew Samonsky, and a bluegrass rendition was recorded
by Mike Toppins, Glen Duncan, Billy Troy, Jim Brown, James Freeze, and
David Chase in 1998. A recording by the group Smash Mouth was heard on
the soundtrack of the video sequel The Jungle Book 2 (2003), and the Jonas
Brothers recorded the number in 2007.
“I Wanna Scare Myself” is the silly and lighthearted song Michael and Patty
Silversher wrote for Tigger (voice of Jim Cummings) to sing in the television
special Boo to You Too! Winnie the Pooh (1996). As Tigger prepares to go
trick-or-treating, he sings the rapid number while putting on various masks
and disguises and trying to frighten himself. The sequence and the song were
first seen in an episode of the television series The New Adventures of Winnie
