60 “FOREVER AND EVER”
“Forever and Ever” is the cheerful song of friendship written by Michael
Abbott and Sarah Weeks for the made-for-video film Pooh’s Grand Adventure:
The Search for Christopher Robin (1997). Winnie the Pooh (voice
of Jim Cummings) and Christopher Robin (Frankie J. Galasso) sing the
spirited and sincere number, promising to remain friends forever and be as
happy as they are now.
“Forget about Love” is the seriocomic love song written by Patty and
Michael Silversher for the made-for-video animated film The Return of
Jafar (1994). The sarcastic parrot Iago (voice of Gilbert Gottfried) tries to
comfort the heartbroken Princess Jasmine (singing voice of Liz Callaway)
when she realizes Aladdin (singing voice of Brad Kane) is keeping secrets
from her. While Iago urges her to forget about her feelings for Aladdin,
scene, the song becomes a touching love duet punctuated by Iago’s snide
commentary.
“Fortune Favors the Brave” is the rock song of victory written by Elton
John (music) and Tim Rice (lyric) for the Broadway musical Aida (2000).
Radames (Adam Pascal), captain of the Egyptian army, and his soldiers sing
the triumphant song as they return from conquering their longtime rivals
the Nubians. The Egyptians sing that they are victorious because the fates
have decreed it so, and Radames sees his future assured.
“Fortuosity” is the silly song of philosophy by Richard M. and Robert B.
Sherman that optimistically believes that good luck will always turn up.
Newly arrived Irish butler John Lawless (Tommy Steele) sings the antic
number in the film The Happiest Millionaire (1967) as he walks the streets
of Philadelphia on his way to a job interview. Later in the period musical,
he reprises the song as he chases down the pet alligators of his eccentric
employer. Jason Graae recorded the number in 2003 as part of a medley of
Sherman and Sherman nonsense songs.
“Friend Like Me” is the show-stopping character song from the animated
movie Aladdin (1992) in which the exuberant Genie (voice of Robin Williams),
just released from the lamp after hundreds of years, sings to Aladdin
about the magical powers he possesses and how his friendship will take the
youth to the top. While the Oscar-nominated song has its charm, it was
overshadowed by Williams’s vocal pyrotechnics and the Disney animators’
Hirschfeld-like artwork in bringing the Genie to life. The song, sometimes
