“Mad Madame Mim” is the gleeful “I am” song for the cheerful villainess
in the animated film The Sword in the Stone (1963). Richard M. and Robert
B. Sherman wrote the bouncy number in which the mischievous wizard
Madame Mim (voice of Martha Wentworth) introduces herself to the boy
Wart, who has been turned into a sparrow, by gloating in song over her evil
powers. To display her talents, she changes herself into a sexy beauty and a
grotesque ogre during the raucous number.
“The Madness of King Scar” is an extended character song for the dissatisfied
lion monarch written by Elton John (music) and Tim Rice (lyric)
for the 1997 Broadway version of The Lion King. Although he is king, the
villainous Scar (John Vickery) is not content. Both the lions and the hyenas
dislike him, a drought has devastated the Pride Lands, and he is paranoid
about being compared unfavorably to the previous king, his brother Mufasa.
During the course of the song, Scar decides what he needs is an heir and he
makes overtures to the lioness Nala (Heather Headley), who vehemently
refuses him. The stream-of-consciousness number alternates between buffoonish
comedy and cold-blooded evil. The title is a wry reference to the
then-recent film The Madness of King George (1994).
“Main Street Electrical Parade” is the memorable synthesizer composition
for one of the most popular of all Disney attractions. Based on the play-
