“YOU’LL BE IN MY HEART” 239
sprinkles the fairy dust on them, Wendy (Kathryn Beaumont), Michael
(Paul Collins), and John (Tommy Luske) rhythmically repeat the lyric that
Peter sings. Once the foursome fly out the window and over Victorian London,
a chorus is heard singing the joyous number on the soundtrack. The
song is reprised at the end of the movie. The number is also used in the
Peter Plan’s Flight attraction at Disneyland and Disney World. A recording
was made by David Anderson, Anne Lloyd, Mitch Miller, and Dan Ocko
and the Sandpipers, a disc was made by Joe Reisman and His Orchestra,
Susan Egan made a standout recording of the song in 1996, and there was
also a playful version by Andrew Samonsky and Ashley Brown in 2005 with
a quartet comprised of Meredith Inglesby, Andy Karl, Tyler Maynard, and
Keewa Nurullah. The song was also heard in the made-for-video film Tinker
Bell (2008).
“You Have It All” is the turbulent song sung by King Saul (Martin Vidnovic)
in the Broadway concert-pageant King David (1997). Jonathan
(Roger Bart) hints to the king that the masses have stopped following him
and instead are drawn to the young David (Marcus Lovett). The king responds
with this bitter number about the young upstart, written by Alan
Menken (music) and Tim Rice (lyric).
“You Know I Will” is the eager pop-folk song by Gordon Kennedy that is
used to illustrate the friendship between the canine Copper and the fox Tod
in the made-for-video animated sequel The Fox and the Hound 2 (2006).
Lucas Grabeel sings the number on the soundtrack, proudly proclaiming
that two friends can take on the world as long as they can depend on each
other.
“You’ll Be in My Heart” is the Oscar-winning up-tempo ballad by Phil
Collins from the animated film Tarzan (1999). The gorilla Kala (voice of
Glenn Close) sings the tender song, about how love is a bond that cannot
be broken, to the infant Tarzan, and the number is picked up by Collins on
the soundtrack. In the 2006 Broadway version of Tarzan, Merle Dandridge
played Kala and sang the song with the ensemble. The adult Tarzan (Josh
Strickland) and Kala reprise the number later in the show when he decides
to join the human world. Collins’s recording of the ballad was very popular,
and it was also recorded by Teddy Geiger, Steve Tyrell, Drew Seeley, Michael
Crawford, Usher Raymond, and, in a duet version, Andrew Samonsky
with Ashley Brown.
