180 “SOMEDAY”
“Someday” is the soft rhythm-and-blues number by Alan Menken (music)
and Stephen Schwartz (lyric) that dreams of a day when everyone can live
and let live. The group All-4-One sang the enticing song over the end credits
of the animated film The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996). Earl Rose
made a distinctive jazz recording of the song in 2000.
“Someone Like Me” is the sincere pop ballad about the hope that your
beloved will finally discover that she loves you, heard during the final
credits of the animated film Doug’s 1st Movie (1999). William Squier and
Jeffrey Lodin wrote the affecting number, and it is sung on the soundtrack
by Michael Africk.
“Someone Like Me Lullabee” is the lazy folk song Richard M. and Robert
B. Sherman wrote for the animated film The Tigger Movie (2000), the
brothers’ first Disney project in twenty-nine years. Sad because none of
number, which also has the tone of a lullaby.
“Someone’s Waiting for You” is the Oscar-nominated song of assurance
written by Sammy Fain (music), Carol Connors, and Ayn Robbins (lyric) for
the animated film The Rescuers (1977). While the kidnapped orphan Penny
puts her teddy bear to bed and then stands on the deck of a dilapidated
riverboat and dreams of being rescued, Shelby Flint sings the tender lullaby
on the soundtrack, encouraging her to be brave and be patient. Barbara
Cook made a memorable recording of the ballad in 1988.
“Something Better” is the hopeful ballad that Barry Mann and Cynthia
Weil wrote for the farcical adventure film Muppet Treasure Island (1996).
Orphan Jim Hawkins (Kevin Bishop) sings the heartfelt “I am” song with
Muppets Rizzo the Rat (voice of Steve Whitmire) and Gonzo (Dave Goelz)
as they clean up the tavern and imagine a life of adventure at sea rather
than drudgery on land.
“Something Good Is Bound to Happen” is the pastiche hymn written
by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn for the period film Hot Lead and Cold
Feet (1978). Missionary Eli Bloodshy (Jim Dale) sings the rousing number
on the streets of 1880s Philadelphia in his efforts to convert the misguided
