“I’VE GOT NO STRINGS” 101
complains about how humans hunt, shoot, trap, and stuff birds, taking their
eggs and feathers without so much as a thank-you.
“It’s Tough to Be a Bug” is the old-time vaudeville-like title song for
the 3-D film shown since 1998 inside the Tree of Life attraction at Walt
Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. The slaphappy number is sung by the
bugs, reminding the audiences of the great services insects perform, from
making honey to getting rid of dung. The movie (and the song) was added
to Disneyland’s California Adventure in 2001.
“It’s Whatcha Do with Whatcha Got” is the spirited song by Gene de
Paul (music) and Don Raye (lyric) that was featured in an animated sequence
in the live-action film So Dear to My Heart (1948). To encourage
the young Jeremiah Kincaid not to give up on his dream of bringing his
black ram to the county fair, the Wise Old Owl (voice of Ken Carson) in
Jeremiah’s scrapbook comes to life and encourages the boy to be resourceful
and keep on trying. The owl is joined by a trio of singing birds and then
other animated animals who chime in singing the tuneful song.
“It’s What’s Inside That Counts” is the lyrical pop song by Randy Rogel
about realizing one’s inner value, used as commentary in the animated
video sequel Cinderella II: Dreams Come True (2002). Cinderella’s stepsister
Anastasia is smitten with a baker and fusses over makeup, clothes,
and jewelry to catch his eye. While Cinderella tries to teach Anastasia to
be more like her true self, Brooke Allison sings this hopeful ballad on the
soundtrack.
“I’ve Got My Eyes on You” is the song of determination sung by Princess
Jasmine (singing voice of Lea Salonga) in the animated video Disney Princess
Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams (2007). Amy Powers and Russ
DeSalvo wrote the driving ballad about keeping your eye on the prize you
want and not giving up. Jasmine sings the song to a wild white horse, saying
she will capture and tame him. By the end of the song, she has indeed done
that, and the two ride off into the sunset.
“I’ve Got No Strings” is the carefree song of freedom that the puppet
Pinocchio (voice of Dickie Jones) sings and dances to as he performs at
Stromboli’s marionette theatre in the animated movie Pinocchio (1940).
The simple ditty by Leigh Harline (music) and Ned Washington (lyric)
