“Dakota” is the fervent song of praise for the Dakota Territory in the<br />

movie musical <strong>The</strong> One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band (1968).<br />

Newspaperman Joe Carder (John Davidson) urges the citizens of a Nebraska<br />

town to move north and settle in the rolling hills of Dakota, and the<br />

crowd soon joins in, singing about the land of opportunity soon to be admitted<br />

to the union. <strong>The</strong> Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman number is similar<br />

to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s song “Oklahoma!” in spirit and style.<br />

“Dalmatian Plantation” is the jaunty ditty songwriter Roger Radcliffe<br />

(voice of Ben Wright) improvises when he comes up with the idea of buying<br />

a farm to house all the dogs in the animated movie One Hundred and One<br />

Dalmatians (1961). Mel Leven wrote the short, sprightly number, which<br />

concludes the film on a silly and joyful note. <strong>The</strong> song is reprised by Anita<br />

(Jodi Benson) in the made-for-video animated sequel 101 Dalmatians II:<br />

Patch’s London Adventure (2003) as she packs up the family’s belongings<br />

to move to a bigger house in the country.<br />

“Dance of the Robe” is the musical plea for help the Nubians sing to the<br />

captive princess Aida (Heather Headley) in the Broadway musical Aida<br />

(2000). Elton John (music) and Tim Rice (lyric) wrote the rock anthem in<br />

which the Nubian slaves urge Aida to lead them in revolt against their cap-<br />
