“La La Lu” is the warm and entrancing lullaby written by Sonny Burke
and Peggy Lee for the animated movie Lady and the Tramp (1955). The
new mother Darling (singing voice of Peggy Lee) sings the quiet number to
the newborn in her arms as the canine Lady comes into the bedroom and
sees the infant for the first time. Jane Sherberg made a graceful recording
of the lullaby.
“Lack of Education” is the brief song of instruction the wise old owl Big
Mama (voice of Pearl Bailey) sings in the animated film The Fox and the
Hound (1981). Jim Stafford wrote the hillbilly-flavored number, which Big
Mama sings to the young fox Tod to make him understand that his best
friend, the hound dog Copper, has been trained to hunt foxes.
“Ladies in the Sky” is the pleasing cowboy ballad written by George
Bruns for the television series The Saga of Andy Burnett (1957), which
was shown on the weekly program Disneyland. The flowing number is not
about women, but is rather a love song to the giant mountains out West that
fill the sky. Pioneer Andy Burnett (Jerome Courtland) sings how he misses
those mountains and will remain faithful to them, dreaming of the day he
will return to the “ladies” in the sky.
