“The Name Game” is a jolly, childlike ditty Carly Simon (music and lyric)
and Brian Hohlfeld (lyric) wrote for the animated film Pooh’s Heffalump
Movie (2005). When the young elephant Lumpy (voice of Kyle Stanger)
makes friends with the young kangaroo Roo (Nikita Hopkins), he teaches
Roo a song in which you come up with all kinds of words that rhyme with
your name. Later in the film Roo and Lumpy reprise the simple but catchy
number as they play in the Hundred Acre Wood.
“Never Again” is the haunting song of farewell written by Alan Menken
(music) and Tim Rice (lyric) for the biblical concert piece King David,
which was presented on Broadway in 1997. Having been hurt by the young
King David (Marcus Lovett), the maiden Michal (Judy Kuhn) sings this
stinging number about how she will never be in a position to be let down
by him again.
“Never Give Up” is the ardent ballad sung by the mermaid Ariel (voice
of Jodi Benson) and the crab Sebastian (Samuel E. Wright) in an episode
of the animated television series The Little Mermaid (1992). In the spirited
number, Ariel urges Sebastian to persevere and not give up on himself. He
eventually agrees with her and joins her in singing about personal perseverance
to make your dreams come true.
