Figure 7.10 shows a typical rain garden configuration<br />

on a residential property. The rain garden shown in<br />

Figure 7.11 represents a simple design that incorporates<br />

a planting bed adjacent to an uncurbed road.<br />

Another source of water <strong>for</strong> a small rain garden is<br />

connecting the roof leader from adjacent buildings.<br />

The stormwater may discharge to the surface of the<br />

bioretention area or may connect directly to an aggregate<br />

infiltration bed beneath.<br />

Tree and shrub pits<br />

Tree and shrub pits intercept runoff and provide shallow<br />

ponding in mulched areas around the tree or shrub<br />

(Figure 7.12). Mulched areas should typically extend to<br />

the tree’s drip line.<br />
