What’s happen<strong>in</strong>g? How does it happen?<br />
Renasci is a Flemish <strong>in</strong>itiative which <strong>in</strong>troduc<strong>in</strong>g<br />
a new method for convert<strong>in</strong>g waste <strong>in</strong>to energy<br />
and raw materials, creat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> smallest possible<br />
amount of waste. The recycl<strong>in</strong>g process recovers<br />
78% of <strong>the</strong> energy and results <strong>in</strong> 100% reusable<br />
raw materials and immediately usable products.<br />
Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, <strong>the</strong> whole process is energy-<strong>in</strong>dependent,<br />
recuperat<strong>in</strong>g all <strong>the</strong> energy needed from<br />
<strong>the</strong> waste itself.<br />
In order to meet <strong>the</strong> challenge of recover<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> maximum<br />
of energy and raw materials from waste <strong>in</strong> an<br />
energy-<strong>in</strong>dependent manner, Renasci uses exist<strong>in</strong>g<br />
‘best practices’, comb<strong>in</strong>ed with ‘new practices’ it has<br />
developed itself, <strong>in</strong> a s<strong>in</strong>gle <strong>in</strong>tegrated process.<br />
This <strong>in</strong>itiative offers recycl<strong>in</strong>g solution which respond<br />
to <strong>the</strong> local waste problem, promot<strong>in</strong>g throughout <strong>the</strong><br />
smart cha<strong>in</strong> process<strong>in</strong>g, a fur<strong>the</strong>r step <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> circular<br />
economy of <strong>the</strong> Ostend port.<br />
Why is this an <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g circular <strong>in</strong>itiative for<br />
circular harbours?<br />
The aim of Renasci <strong><strong>in</strong>itiatives</strong> is to recycle all <strong>the</strong><br />
typology of waste recuperat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> maximum<br />
amount of energy and secondary raw materials.<br />
The fact that <strong>the</strong> Renasci <strong><strong>in</strong>itiatives</strong> is based on <strong>the</strong><br />
local waste flows it is relevant for enhanc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />
circularity at <strong>the</strong> local level. Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, <strong>the</strong> location<br />
of <strong>the</strong> Structure it is also relevant s<strong>in</strong>ce is <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> city port area, and it is creat<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g<br />
connection with <strong>the</strong> city.
