Port activities are addressed for <strong>the</strong>ir technologies<br />
or material flows for two reasons; to render more efficiënty<br />
<strong>in</strong>dustrial processes, and to steer and <strong>in</strong>itiate<br />
<strong>in</strong>novative projects. What is <strong>the</strong> relation with <strong>the</strong><br />
city?Waste streams like used water, organic waste,<br />
sewage sludge,.. from <strong>the</strong> consumers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> city, are<br />
processed <strong>in</strong>to new products for <strong>the</strong> port-related <strong>in</strong>dustries.<br />
What are <strong>the</strong> ambitions?<br />
To stimulate and connect <strong>in</strong>dustrial processes work<strong>in</strong>g<br />
with renewable technologies and as such to guide<br />
<strong>the</strong> transition of <strong>the</strong> metropolitan area of Amsterdam<br />
towards new economies. The idea is to match <strong>the</strong><br />
right <strong>in</strong>novators with residual flows to make new resources<br />
and energy for <strong>the</strong> region. This both <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
form of pilot projects, and larger <strong>in</strong>dustrial processes.<br />
Who is beh<strong>in</strong>d it?<br />

The fact <strong>the</strong>y were municipal companies, <strong>the</strong>re was<br />
a eas<strong>in</strong>ess and trust from <strong>the</strong> beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g. This helped<br />
<strong>in</strong> shar<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation, mak<strong>in</strong>g quick steps towards<br />
sett<strong>in</strong>g up pilot projects around <strong>the</strong> valorisation of<br />
municipal waste (water).<br />
