What is <strong>the</strong> relation with <strong>the</strong> port and water?<br />
The Port of Brussels and <strong>the</strong> Brussels Port<br />
Community (CPB), which br<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r companies<br />
and actors located <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> port sector as well as o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
major <strong>in</strong>stitutions and organizations <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Canal<br />
area, are two critical partners <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Irisphere program.<br />
<strong>City</strong>.dev is <strong>the</strong> lead<strong>in</strong>g partner, whose offices<br />
are located near <strong>the</strong> port of Brussels.<br />
What is <strong>the</strong> relation with <strong>the</strong> city?<br />
It is part of <strong>the</strong> implementation of <strong>the</strong> Regional<br />
Programme <strong>in</strong> <strong>Circular</strong> Economy (PREC), a vast<br />
strategic program set up by <strong>the</strong> Brussels-Capital<br />
Region, by <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g regional and municipal partners,<br />
<strong>the</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess world and expert consultancies.<br />
Through <strong>the</strong> IRISPHERE program, <strong>the</strong> aim is to test<br />
an urban version of <strong>in</strong>dustrial ecology.<br />
What are <strong>the</strong> ambitions?<br />
The IRISPHERE program also aims to <strong>in</strong>vest <strong>in</strong> a local<br />
materials park for companies. The objective be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
to collect and treat salvaged materials from local<br />
economic actors. One of <strong>the</strong> pilot projects, a biowaste<br />
collection and treatment service piloted by<br />
La Ferme Nos Pilifs, is currently under study to produce<br />
a fertiliz<strong>in</strong>g material “Made In Brussels.” The<br />
idea is to collect <strong>the</strong> food waste com<strong>in</strong>g from local<br />
economic actors and <strong>the</strong>n transform it <strong>in</strong>to a fertiliz<strong>in</strong>g<br />
product us<strong>in</strong>g Eco-Cleaner technology.<br />
Who is beh<strong>in</strong>d it?<br />
The IRISPHERE program is coord<strong>in</strong>ated by citydev.<br />
brussels and is supported by a wide range of actors:<br />
EcoRes, Greenloop, Lateral Th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g Factory,<br />
BECI, <strong>the</strong> Brussels Clean Agency, Atrium, Brussels<br />
Environment, <strong>the</strong> Port Community, greentech.<br />
brussels by impulse.brussels, <strong>the</strong> Ferme Nos Pilifs<br />
and <strong>the</strong> Port of Brussels. Besides, <strong>the</strong> program<br />
has received fund<strong>in</strong>g from <strong>the</strong> European Regional<br />
Development Fund (ERDF) 2014-2020 with a budget<br />
of €1.4 million.<br />
