upon departmental approval of petition presented by a qualified student.<br />

394. Internship in Education of the Gifted. (3h) Intensive period of observation and instruction<br />

of gifted students. Readings and directed reflection upon the classroom experience are used to<br />

develop a richer understanding of such a special school setting.<br />

395. Teaching Exceptional Students. (2h) Introduction to understanding exceptional students<br />

and effective teaching strategies for their inclusion in the regular classroom.<br />

396. Education in Business and Industry. (3h) Educational concepts applied to programs in education<br />

and training in business/industrial settings.<br />

397. Research and Trends in the Teaching of Foreign Languages. (3h) Study of current trends and<br />

issues in foreign language education. Research topics include language and linguistics, culture,<br />

The major in English requires a minimum of thirty hours, at least twenty-four hours of which<br />

must be in advanced language and literature courses numbered 300 to 399. The remaining six<br />

hours may consist of ENG 160/165 and 170/175 or of one of those plus an additional 300-level<br />

language and literature course. Majors are not required to take both 160/165 and 170/175,
